Missile alert forces Al-Nassr to delay Champions League kick-off as Ronaldo waits

Monday night in Riyadh got weird fast. Al-Nassr's Asian Champions League match was supposed to kick off at the usual time, but the Saudi-led military coalition announced they'd just intercepted a missile headed toward the city. So the referee looked at his watch, shrugged, and pushed kick-off back an hour.

The Houthis were behind it — the Iran-backed group's been lobbing strikes at Saudi Arabia pretty consistently lately. Oil facilities, cargo ships, transport hubs. The airport in Riyadh's taken some heavy hits recently too. So yeah, when the alarm goes up, you stop what you're doing.

Ronaldo and Co. eventually got their match. Al-Nassr won 3-1, and the Portuguese forward found the back of the net himself. Not exactly the kind of drama anyone signs up for when they show up to a football match, but that's the reality on the ground in Riyadh right now.

The Houthi attacks have become routine enough that they barely make headlines anymore outside the region. But they're serious enough to disrupt a major football fixture, which tells you something about the frequency and scale of what's happening. One hour delay doesn't sound like much until you realize it's happening because an anti-ship missile got shot down somewhere over the city.

Still, the show went on. Ronaldo got his goal. Al-Nassr got their win. And the crowd got a story they'll be telling for years — the night their Champions League match nearly didn't happen.
