Walmart's budget 4K streamer is getting a real AI upgrade
Walmart's refreshed Onn 4K Pro streamer adds Gemini AI and Matter support. Budget streaming with smarter features coming soon.
Walmart's quietly working on a refresh of its Onn 4K Pro box, and it's bringing some genuinely useful stuff to the $40-ish price point. The retailer's website is already listing the updated version, though there's been no formal announcement yet.
The new model keeps the same affordable price but adds Google's Gemini AI assistant built right in. Voice commands get smarter — you can ask it to find shows, control smart home devices, or just pull up information without leaving your couch. That used to be an exclusive perk of pricier boxes. Not anymore.
There's also Matter support now. Yeah, that's the smart home standard that's supposed to make all your connected gadgets talk to each other without the constant app-switching headaches. Thread networking comes along too, which helps devices communicate more reliably.
The original Onn 4K Pro showed up in May 2024 and became an instant favorite for people who wanted 4K streaming without dropping $100+ on a Roku or Apple TV. It ran Google TV, had decent specs, and just worked. This update doesn't mess with that formula. It's mostly adding the stuff people actually want.
Leaked technical specs hit the internet about a month back, so this listing confirms what people were already whispering about. The timing makes sense too. Streaming boxes are getting more competitive, and Walmart needs to keep its Onn line relevant against the established players.
No official date yet, but if it's already on the website, it can't be long before Walmart makes this official. And if you've been eyeing a cheap 4K box but didn't want to compromise on features, this one's probably worth waiting for.
