Nintendo's Furukawa apologizes for Switch 2 price hike, promises a packed game lineup

Nintendo's president just did what nobody wants to do: apologize for charging more money. Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged the Switch 2 price bump today and promised the console's going to be stacked with games to help fans feel better about it.

The new console is getting pricier across the board. In the U.S. and other regions, Nintendo's raising the asking price, which... yeah, not great. But Furukawa's pitch is pretty simple: you'll get so much software it'll hurt less.

He didn't get into specifics about which games are coming or when. The message was clear enough, though. Nintendo knows the price increase stings. They want you to know they're thinking about it, and they're betting that a solid lineup of new titles will make people forget they're paying extra at checkout.

Whether that actually works depends on what Nintendo announces. Promises mean nothing until there's a release date and some gameplay footage. Fans have been waiting to hear what's coming for Switch 2 (some of them for a while now), so this is at least a signal that the company's ready to back up the higher price tag with actual content.

The console launches later this year, so we should know more soon. For now, Furukawa's basically asking for patience and trust.
