Arsenal's two-game sprint to the title looks almost too easy
Arsenal are two points up with Burnley and Crystal Palace next. Manchester City face Bournemouth and Aston Villa. It should be straightforward for Arteta.
Arsenal are two points clear with two games left. The math is brutal for everyone else. Win both, and it's done. Over. Champagne time.
Here's the thing though — those two games are basically gimmes. Burnley tonight, already relegated and checking out mentally. Then Crystal Palace on Sunday, who'll be thinking about their Europa Conference League final instead of stopping the Gunners. It's the kind of fixture list that makes managers nervous because it almost seems too soft.
Manchester City, meanwhile, got dealt a rougher hand. They're away at Bournemouth on Tuesday, a team genuinely scrappling for Champions League spots. Then they finish at home against Aston Villa, fresh back from Istanbul after playing a Europa League final. That's not a cakewalk. That's two tricky opponents when you need favors.
The gap between the two schedules is almost comical. Arsenal should waltz through. Should. But pressure does weird stuff to teams. Players overthink it. Managers get tense. A relegated side with nothing to lose can be annoying. And Palace might actually show up just to prove they're not a complete pushover before their own final.
City aren't giving up either. They've clawed their way back into this before. But they'd need Arsenal to slip, and Arsenal would have to slip badly — lose both games badly — for City to even have a conversation about winning this.
The title feels done. The fixtures say it's done. But we've got four days and two matches to find out if pressure breaks Arsenal or if they handle it like champions do.
