Trump fires back at EU after €890m Google fine with tariff threat

Donald Trump's had enough of Europe's tech fines. After the EU slapped Google with an €890 million penalty, the US president went straight to Truth Social with a threat: more tariffs are coming, and they'll be big.

Trump's gripe is straightforward. He reckons Brussels is singling out American companies—Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon—while letting European firms off the hook. "The United States of America is not a 'PIGGYBANK' for Europe," he wrote, making clear he sees these fines as essentially robbing American businesses and, by extension, American taxpayers.

This isn't his first rodeo with tariffs. Trump's already waving them around against more than 80 countries, so the EU threat fits into a broader pattern of him using trade pressure as leverage. Whether it's genuinely about fairness or just negotiating theater, Brussels is now in his crosshairs.

The EU's enforcement actions on Big Tech have ramped up significantly over the past few years. Google's been hit repeatedly—this latest fine joins a string of others for various antitrust violations.
