Kyiv hit by Russian ballistic missiles as Zelenskyy's warning comes true

Thursday brought another round of Russian strikes to Ukraine's capital, with at least one person killed and fires breaking out across multiple districts. Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned earlier that Moscow was gearing up for a major assault—and he was right.

Kyiv's military administration confirmed the death toll while mayor Vitali Klitschko reported blazes spreading through several neighborhoods. He'd already sounded the alarm before the strikes hit: "The enemy is attacking the capital with ballistic weapons. The threat of further attack remains present. Stay in shelters!"

It's the kind of pattern we've seen before. Zelenskyy flags an incoming barrage. Russia follows through. Kyiv's air defenses do what they can. But ballistic missiles are harder to intercept than cruise missiles, and the damage compounds.

The e-commerce warehouse strikes have become somewhat routine at this point, a tit-for-tat that shows neither side is backing down.

The cycle's become grim and familiar: warnings, strikes, casualties, fires, cleanup, repeat. Residents in Kyiv know the routine by now. Shelters are second nature. But routine doesn't make it any less serious. One death in Thursday's attack means one family got worse news, one neighborhood dealing with wreckage, one more reminder that despite the distance from the front lines, the capital remains firmly in Moscow's crosshairs.
